Measuring your bed
Put a tape measure inside the bed, from the inside of the bulkhead (front wall) to the inside of the closed tailgate. Round to the nearest inch — a 69" measurement is a 5'8" bed.
Bed length is measured inside the box, not along the outside of the truck.

This is the box for anyone whose truck has to do two jobs. A crossover eats the front of the bed and shortens what will lie flat. A side mount runs along the wall and takes up bed width rather than bed length. If you regularly haul long material, that trade is usually the right one to make.

Common Questions
How is a side rail box different from a crossover?
A crossover sits across the bed just behind the cab, using the front of the bed. A side rail box runs lengthwise along the inside of the bed wall. The crossover takes bed length. The side mount takes bed width. If your work involves long loads that need to lie flat, the side mount usually wins.
Where exactly does a side mount box sit?
Along the inside of the bed wall, secured to the bed. Because it runs the length of the bed rather than across it, fit depends on your bed length and where the wheel well falls. Part listings state the size of the box, so match that against your truck or have a store measure it for you.
Can I run a tonneau cover with a side mount box?
It depends on the height of the box relative to your bed rails and on the cover itself. Some combinations work and some do not. Check the height of the box you want against the specific cover before buying either one, or bring the truck to a store and have staff confirm it against both parts.
