Measuring your bed
Put a tape measure inside the bed, from the inside of the bulkhead (front wall) to the inside of the closed tailgate. Round to the nearest inch — a 69" measurement is a 5'8" bed.
Bed length is measured inside the box, not along the outside of the truck.

A fifth wheel uses a plate and jaws that lock onto a kingpin, the same arrangement a semi uses. It takes up bed space in a way a ball does not, and most people pulling a large travel trailer end up here. CURT, GEN-Y Hitch and Blue Ox are all represented.
Whichever way you go, the mount is the part that has to be right. Base kits are cut for a particular truck and frame, so run the vehicle filter first, and size the hitch to the trailer you actually tow.
Common Questions
Gooseneck or fifth wheel, which do I need?
The trailer decides for you. A trailer with a ball coupler on a gooseneck tube needs a gooseneck ball in the bed. A trailer with a kingpin needs a fifth wheel plate. If you are shopping for the trailer at the same time, settle that first, because the hitch follows the trailer rather than the other way around.
What is a center kit?
It is the part that mounts in the bed floor and carries the ball, along with the frame brackets that hold it under the truck. B&W's Turnoverball center kits are the ones listed most often here. The kit is truck-specific, so it is the same ball with different mounting for nearly every pickup.
