Fender trim runs along the lip of the wheel opening, the worst-treated edge on any truck. It caps the chipped paint that leads to rust and gives the arch a clean stainless line. Nearly all of this section is Putco stainless fender trim, cut for particular truck bodies including fleetside and stepside beds.

Measuring your bed
Put a tape measure inside the bed, from the inside of the bulkhead (front wall) to the inside of the closed tailgate. Round to the nearest inch — a 69" measurement is a 5'8" bed.

Everything the tires throw goes at the wheel arch first. Once the paint on that lip is stone-chipped, water gets behind it and rust follows, usually somewhere you cannot see until it is well underway. Trim covers the edge in stainless and stops that cycle before it starts.
Putco cuts theirs to the shape of a specific truck's openings, which is why the part numbers run long. Fleetside and stepside beds have different arches, and getting that wrong is the usual reason a set will not sit flat.

What does fender trim actually do?

No. A flare is a wider piece that stands out from the body and covers a bigger tire or a wider track. Trim is a thin strip that follows the existing wheel opening without adding any width. If your tires stick out past the body, a flare is what you need, not trim.
Will it fit any truck?
