Control Arms

Stock control arms are built to meet the demands of everyday driving on paved roads. Steering Stabilizers

If your lifted truck wanders at highway speeds, pulls on rough pavement, or shakes violently after hitting a bump, a quality steering stabilizer is one of the most effective and affordable fixes available. Steering stabilizers are especially critical for lifted trucks, larger tire setups, and Jeeps, where increased leverage and changed suspension geometry place far greater demands on the factory steering system than it was designed to handle.

What Is a Steering Stabilizer?

A steering stabilizer is a hydraulic damper that mounts between your vehicle's steering linkage and the frame or axle. It works on the same principle as a shock absorber, but instead of damping vertical suspension movement, it controls lateral and oscillating forces in the steering system. The result is a steering feel that is more stable, predictable, and resistant to the road inputs and feedback that cause shimmy, wander, and the dreaded death wobble.

What Is Death Wobble?

Death wobble is a violent, rapid oscillation of the front wheels and steering that can occur on trucks and Jeeps, particularly those that are lifted or running large tires, when a bump or road imperfection triggers resonance in the steering and suspension components. It manifests as an intense shaking of the entire front end that can be difficult to control and does not stop until speed is reduced. While a steering stabilizer alone does not fix the underlying causes of death wobble (which typically involve worn ball joints, tie rod ends, or track bars), it significantly reduces the severity and frequency of episodes and provides a meaningful safety buffer while other repairs are made.

Single vs. Dual Steering Stabilizers

A single stabilizer is the standard configuration for most trucks and Jeeps. It mounts to one side of the steering linkage and provides effective damping for everyday driving, mild to moderate lifts, and stock or moderately oversized tire applications. For most truck owners running lifts up to about 4 inches with tires in the 33-35" range, a quality single stabilizer from brands like Bilstein or Rancho delivers a noticeable improvement in steering feel and highway stability.

For more aggressively lifted trucks and Jeeps running large-diameter tires, typically 35" and up, a dual stabilizer kit adds a second damper on the opposite side of the steering linkage. This configuration provides substantially greater resistance to shimmy and wander, which becomes increasingly necessary as tire size and lift height increase the leverage and rotational mass acting on the steering system. Who Needs a Steering Stabilizer?

Steering stabilizers are most beneficial for lifted trucks and Jeeps with larger tires, any vehicle experiencing shimmy or steering wander, trucks used for off-road driving where rocks and ruts create sudden steering impacts, and vehicles that have experienced death wobble symptoms. Even stock-height trucks with high mileage and worn steering components can benefit from a stabilizer as part of a broader steering refresh.

The right stabilizer depends on your vehicle's lift height, tire size, and intended use. For mild lifts and daily driving, a quality monotube single stabilizer like those from Bilstein or Rancho provides an excellent improvement over a worn factory unit. Track Bars and Panhard Rods

A panhard rod, or track bar, is a critical component of your axle assembly. Track bars prevent lateral (side) movement in your axle. If you have a faulty track bar, you'll notice plenty of obvious symptoms: vibration in your steering wheel, loose steering, and strange sounds. For Jeep owners, a worn track bar is a common contributor to death wobble. For the safety of you and those around you, get faulty track bar systems replaced as soon as possible.
