Rear Bumper

Aftermarket Rear Bumpers

When upgrading bumpers, most people think about the front one first. If your off-roading goes beyond dirt roads, your rear bumper takes the brunt every time you drop down after clearing an obstacle -- and the same goes for backing into parking garage spaces. It's time to have a look behind you.

Why Replace a Factory Rear Bumper

Factory bumpers are made from lightweight, formed outer shells designed to absorb impacts during collisions. They are not built to take the abuse of life on the trails or backing into solid objects during normal life. If you still have your factory rear bumper attached, a replacement may be a great upgrade. Even if you got rear-ended, an aftermarket bumper is often a great choice, due to its strength and even its cost compared to a factory replacement.

Styles and Features

Aftermarket rear bumpers are just as varied as front bumper replacements. Some have unique textures, like diamond-plated steps, or come with built-in LED lights, integrated hitches, or better impact absorption.

They also have a larger variety of designs compared to factory bumpers. Many are lower-profile or have angled edges, which helps keep rocks away and keeps the bumper out of the way on the trail. They're designed for strength or for clearing obstacles, so they'll withstand difficult conditions that would cause a stock rear bumper to crumble and fail. With sturdy materials like powder-coated steel, rear bumpers can offer just as much protection as aftermarket front bumpers.
