Orion Cooker Original Stainless Steel Outdoor Charcoal Convection Cooker and Smoker

The Original Orion Cooker is the cooker that started it all. It runs three cooking processes at the same time — convection, steam, and smoke — using 100% indirect heat, so you get the tenderness of an all-day smoker in a fraction of the time and without standing over it. Charcoal sits in two rings on the outside of the unit, one under the lower ring and a handful on top of the lid. Nothing burns inside the cooking cylinder, so there are no flare-ups, no hot spots, and no reason to lift the lid.

It is a favorite with tailgaters and campers for a simple reason: the whole unit breaks down into a box roughly 21 in. square that weighs under 35 lbs, so it loads into a truck bed, an SUV, or a car trunk without a trailer or a second set of hands.

How it cooks

• Convection. Charcoal in the lower ring and on the lid creates a convection current that circulates around the cooking cylinder and cooks the food evenly from every side.
• Steam. The cylinder is fully enclosed, so moisture from the meat collects in the deep drip pan and steams it as it cooks. Meat comes off moist instead of dried out.
• Smoke. Drop wood chips between the drip pan and the wall of the cylinder and the heat from the lower ring smolders them for the whole cook. No soaking, no refilling.
