Pickup Accessories
Pickup trucks are already fantastically versatile and functional machines, but they’re also endlessly customizable. Truck accessories like tool boxes, bed liners, winches, and the like make your truck even more functional and versatile than it is now.
Let’s look at some popular pickup truck accessories that you can add to your truck to improve its capability and appearance.
Truck Bed Covers
Truck bed covers are also generally called tonneau covers. Your truck bed is a great place to store tools, equipment, and cargo, but without a cover, these items are potentially exposed to bad weather and people with bad intentions.
Truck bed covers keep your items out of sight and protected from the elements. They come in many different styles, including aluminum, ABS plastic, and fiberglass. These covers can be folded and/or easily removed, and some also come with locking mechanisms.
Truck Tool Boxes
Another way to keep your tools safe and protected is to get a truck toolbox. Truck toolboxes can be custom designed to fit into your truck bed and can also be designed to fit in a bed that includes a tonneau cover and/or bed liner.
These boxes are usually made of metal or heavy-duty rubber or plastic, and generally include some type of locking mechanism.
Spray On Bedliner
A bed liner is a pretty important thing to add to your truck as soon as possible. This protective coating safeguards your bed and also creates a skid-proof surface that makes loading and unloading cargo a lot easier.
Spray-on truck bed liners generally come in two types: aromatic and aliphatic. The former type is usually cheaper and used for black or dark-colored trucks. The latter type is better for lighter-colored trucks and trucks with metallic finishes.
This type is made with pure polyurethane and can match any color. Spray in bedliner protects against the elements and damage from transporting cargo in your truck bed.
Truck Camper Top
Truck camper tops turn your truck bed into a versatile space for cargo or for camping. The main purpose of a truck camper top is to provide a sheltered space in your truck bed that you can use for various applications. Some camper tops are flush with the cab, while others are taller or extend over the cab. Camper tops come in a variety of different sizes and shapes. Some are very simple inside, while others have various extra features like LED lighting or storage options.
Wheel Spacers For Trucks
Wheel spacers come in handy if you plan to install larger tires and wheels or large brakes. Another use for wheel spacers is if you want to give your truck a wide stance look. This look is partially aesthetic, but also partially functional in reducing body roll and enhancing stability.
Wheel spacers are essentially large metal washers that install between the wheel and your truck hub. They provide clearance for aftermarket installations of taller and wider tires or larger brake calipers.
Lift Kits
Lift kits for trucks are often associated with the off-road set, however, they provide some other practical benefits as well. Lift kits help your truck’s squat ability, which is important when towing. A taller truck will also help you see further down the road and spot obstacles in advance.
On a totally practical front, a lift kit will make it easier to inspect or work on the underside of your truck. Lift kits improve ground clearance and will also allow you to install taller wheels and tires.
Truck Winches
Truck winches are another accessory that is often purchased by the off-road set. The main purpose of a truck winch for off-road use is to help you get your truck unstuck. However, winches can also be useful for fleet or utility vehicles.
You never know when you might need to pull something. Winches install on your front bumper and deploy a length of galvanized cable to pull something towards your truck, or to pull your truck out of sticky off-road terrain.
Nerf Bars
Nerf bars for trucks are tube-shaped devices that install on the side of your vehicle to make entry and exit easier. These bars are sometimes called side steps or sidebars and are also almost the same thing as a running board.
Side steps, running boards, and nerf bars all serve one main purpose–to make getting in and out of your truck easier. This is especially helpful if you have a lifted truck or regularly have passengers who are short or elderly.
Nerf bars are easy to install, and you can add them to any truck or replace factory running boards with them. Nerf bars can also be useful for off-road vehicles as they protect your rocker panels from contacting obstacles.
Front Bumpers
Sometimes the factory front bumpers on trucks and SUVs are pretty boring. To give your truck or SUV a more interesting or aggressive look, you may want to consider replacing your factory bumper with an aftermarket bumper. Certain aftermarket bumpers may make it easier to install a winch or a brush guard as well.
