Winches and Accessories at H&H Truck Accessories

Going off-road is all about getting away from it all, exploring the unknown, and testing your driving skills (and your nerves). Your adventures will take you through murky bogs, past wild streams, through sand and dirt. The more you push yourself and your truck or Jeep, the more opportunities to get stuck will occur. Whether you’re with friends or out on your own, you should always be prepared to get yourself – or others – out of trouble. Having a winch on the front of your truck is one of the best upgrades you make and H&H has plenty of winches in all price ranges to choose from.

Choosing the right winch for your vehicle is essential and each model is rated for a specific weight range. The general rule is that you want a winch to be rated for roughly twice the weight of your truck, Jeep, or ATV. So, for most trucks that means a winch rated for 10-12,000 pounds. One thing to keep in mind is that by using a snatch block (a pulley) can effectively double your pulling power – or cut the load in half. However you choose to look it, a snatch block will definitely make the recovery work easier for the winch.

In addition, you’ll need somewhere to mount your winch and H&H has plenty of front bumpers and grille guards with built-in mounts. It’s important that you make sure that whichever mount you choose is compatible with the winch, as well, so don’t hesitate to ask our experts about a bumper and winch combo.

There’s more to consider, as well. You need to take into consideration the condition of your battery and the amount of draw and duty cycle the winch is rated for, so you don’t overheat the winch or run out of juice to power it.

Another thing to consider is whether you want traditional braided steel cable or synthetic winch rope. While steel is less prone to damage during use, recovery rope is considered to be a safer choice. Why? Because, if a winch line does fail, all of that stored-up energy has to go somewhere. A steel line can recoil quickly, like a steel whip and is extremely dangerous. A synthetic rope will quickly drop to the ground. Regardless of which type of line you choose, it’s always wise to put a sand-filled bag or weight mid-line, just in case.

No off-road adventure is complete without a good set of winch accessories. A great new way to control your recovery safely is with a wireless winch remote, such as the WARN HUB Receiver, which can be used with a free Android or iOS app on your phone. Going wireless means you can stay safely out of the way in case something goes wrong.

Lastly, in order to properly use winches you will need some other accessories, like shackles (D-rings) and leather gloves. Many recovery kits are available that include everything you need, such as the WARN kits.

These guys are awesome professionals. I thought I would save some money and order my winch online and I did. When the winch finally came in I couldn't find anyone to put it on but these guys took the challenge. Everyone else wanted to give that song and dance "If you don't buy it from us we cant help you". My son and I were even going to try this job but the bumper and winch were just too heavy for us to handle. The crew at H&H did a fantastic job. Thanks again H&H.
